I decided to cut my afro off into a fade hairstyle back in September. I know it seems counterproductive to shave off my air leading into winter, but hey, hats exist. My routine hasn’t changed much in terms of products. I have found I reach for the same few so I decided to share.
- Camille Rose Mint Condition Braid and Scalp Spray

Hair is still hair, whether long or short, so I still moisturize with water-based products first. I know it may be popular to soothe your scalp at the height of braid season, but I still use it. The water-based spray that has soothing peppermint feels good on the scalp. I distribute it throughout my hair with a brush.
2. Carol’s Daughter Coco Creme Curl Enhancing Butter

If I don’t use the spray, I use cream. I’m currently using the Coco Creme butter from Carol’s Daughter. I’ll brush it in using my boar bristle brush. It is not super heavy and lasts for about two or three days before reapplication.

3. The Doux Mousse Def Texture Foam

When I had slightly more hair and more pronounced waves, I’d use this foam to better define the waves. My hair will still be left soft, defined, with no flaking.
4. Blue Magic Coconut Oil Hair Conditioner

Yes, girl! Good ole’ hair grease! The hair grease of our youth got pushed to the wayside during the natural hair movement, but many of us are making our way back. I also like Softee’s Mango Butter hair grease as well. I seal in whatever water-based product I use with a light layer of grease. My hair remains soft and moisturized, plus the grease leaves it with a nice sheen.
Do you have a fade too? If so, what are you using to maintain it? Let’s chat in the comments!
