The state of Mississippi doesn’t always get shown in a good light, but there are great things going on in the Maganolia State. Mississippi State University’s very own Dr. Colleen Scott was recognized by the Bayh-Dole Foundation for her innovation in cancer research.

She developed patented infrared imaging dyes that enhance viewers’ observations of cancer cells. This technology will aid clinicians in detecting cancer tumor boundaries enhancing the detection and treatment of cancer by providing deeper and clearer images of cancer cells. Dr. Scott’s work will also be featured in the Bayh-Dole Coaltion’s 2026 Faces of American Innovation Report. The report highlights innovators whose discoveries demonstrate the importance of translating federally supported research into practical technologies.
